Our campers are usually seven through 14 years of age or second grade through middle school. Children are grouped together in mixed-age groups for most activities. We feel strongly that having children interact across age groups and grades can create incredible opportunities for mentoring, building relationships, allowing for "big sister" and "big brother" role modeling and much more. Althought the language of our camp is English, we do accept a very small number of campers with limited English skills into our immersion program.
The Nanbo Discovery Camp senior staff consists of experienced international school educators. Our junior counselors are senior high school and university students, mostly bilingual, all mature, responsible and caring young adults. Most of them have attended international school in Japan and many of them are former Nanbo campers. We also have a counselor-in-training program (C.I.T.) that provides younger high school students the chance to develop leadership skills, gain in confidence and have fun as campers at the same time.
